Coach Sims is in his 30th year of coaching and sixth here at C.E. King, serving as Co-Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs Coach/H-Backs Coach/Equipment Coordinator. Prior to coming to Sheldon ISD, Coach Sims spent two years as Special Teams Coordinator/Offensive Line coach at Dayton. For the preceding five years, Coach Sims was the Offensive Coordinator and then Special Teams Coordinator at Humble HS.
Before coming to the Houston area, he spent three successful years at Sherman HS serving as Co-Offensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator, which included three playoff appearances, back-to-back District 13-4A championships and a quarterfinal run in 2011. In 2008, Coach Sims was the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach for Clovis West HS (Fresno, CA), where he tutored former NFL quarterback, Jeff Tuel, and helped guide the Golden Eagles the 2008 CIF Division I Central Section Championship.
Coach Sims’ previous varsity experience in Texas also includes coaching Defensive Backs in DeSoto (2007 8-5A Champions, 5A Division II Area Finalist), Pass Game Coordinator/QB Coach at Temple HS, Special Teams Coordinator/OL at Canton HS (2005 14-3A Champions, 3A Division II Quarterfinalist), Offensive Line at Lake Travis HS, and Tight Ends Coach at Mission HS (2002 4A Division I Quarterfinalist); as well as in Illinois at his alma mater, Naperville Central (1997 6A Semifinalist, #3 National Ranking; 1998 6A Quarterfinalist.
Coach Sims has also coached in the college ranks, most recently in 2004 as Tight Ends Coach at Eastern Michigan University. Before his stint in the Mid-American Conference, he was on staff for two years in the Big Ten at Northwestern University, being a part of the 2000 Big Ten Champions. In 1999, he was Running Backs Coach at Division II Midwestern State, mentoring future Super Bowl Champion, Dominic Rhodes, and where he was also volunteer assistant during the 1999 Dallas Cowboys Training Camp. He began his coaching career as Video Director/Student Assistant Coach at his Alma mater, Southern Illinois University.
A native of Naperville, IL, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History Education from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in History from Eastern Michigan University.
